If you have to appear in court for your divorce, it’s important that you’re well prepared so you handle the situation in the best possible manner. Remember, if you make a bad impression in divorce court, it absolutely could influence the outcome of your case.
With that in mind, here are a few things you should know to get ready for your court appearance.
- The courtroom is not the place to have an attitude—It’s understandable to be upset about your divorce, but you can’t let your emotions get the best of you in court. If you act out or are rude, you could get on the wrong side of the judge, and that could certainly have a negative effect on your case.
- Look presentable—You don’t need to show up to court in expensive clothes, but you do need to look presentable. Dress like you would for a business meeting. You don’t need to go overboard, but you do want people to take you seriously.
- Show up early—You need to make sure you get to court in plenty of time for your hearing. Leave early in case you run into traffic and so you have plenty of time to park, find the courtroom, and get comfortable.
